CONFIRMATION ON MY MIND
The history of Confirmation is a story of highs and lows in the church. At first there was no such thing as the first 'confirmed' members of the Church were those newly baptized. Later, when infants were baptized, confirmation became important. Luther, however, saw it as useful although not essential. Today, it is something parents want their children to experience. So we have confirmation.
For me, confirmation is a chance for me to become a pastor to some pretty special people. 'Confirmation age' isn't an easy age. You're no longer a kid, but you're not an adult either. Confirmation age is that awkward time of early teen years when everything...absolutely everything... is changing. Confirmation is never easy. For me, it's like roller skating or surfing: a bit exiting and scary at the same time.
As it looks right now, our confirmation program will last for 2 years, starting at the beginning of the 7th grade. Classes will take place on Sunday afternoon and parents will be a central part of the teaching. I'm excited about this ministry and I ask for all our members to pray for me, for the shepherds and parents who will be helping and for the students who will participate. Please pray that God's spirit will be with us and will bless our time together.
In Christ,
Pastor Roger
